WWF Wrestlers Visit Acclaim Entertainment

From 1989 to 1999, Acclaim Entertainment held the contract for WWF/WWE. During this time period they released a slew of wrestling videos games on multiple different platforms (including the Wrestlemania Arcade Game, WWF in your House, WWF Royal Rumble, etc...)
This past thanksgiving a close friend of the family, and former employee of Acclaim, surprised me with something amazing. A photo album of snap shots taken on set in 1995 of some of the biggest wrestlers of the time, hanging out in their offices and being tracked in front of a green screen for modeling the games.
Being a huge wrestling fan, I thought the photos were pretty much amazing on their own. But as an artist, I actually found them rather compelling.

i found these old photos from 2005 on my hard drive. the subject matter was really
unique at the time, and i wish i acted on it a little quicker. i still think this photo is

Lucy, 1998-2010

I know this isn't really intended to be a personal blog, but sometimes important
things happen that you just want to share with others. As as artist, I have found
that my way of grieving is different than most people. So when our family member,
Lucy the canine, passed away a few days ago I turned to my photos as comfort. I
was sad to find that I didn't have more!
Charlie also penned a beautiful song that is a wonderful memorial to all the
memories of her we hold so dear. Whenever I miss her, I know that song will
always be around to stand for all the good and positiveness she represented.
Animals are important parts of our lives, and I think most of us knows how big of a
hole they leave when they pass away. Lucy was an amazing dog, and she will greatly
be missed.

happy new year everyone!
I was going to make an update today and I realized something very important...
this blog was started 3 years ago in january as a "new years resolution". While
there have been some patches of inactivity here and there, I'm feeling really
great about the fact that it is still kickin!
Originally, I was hoping that this blog would help me start shooting regularly
(which it did!) and by doing that, something unexpected started to happen..
I started to find my photographic voice. I know that sounds kinda cheesy,
but its true. In fact, yesterday I was informed that one of my wrestling photos
was accepted into a group show for Phillyist for the end of January!
So, thanks for looking and being patient. Thanks for commenting. Heres to
many more to come.

so, i think i discovered a new passion.
photographing wrestling. seriously, this weekend was amazing and pretty
much all i did was crawl around on a dirty floor, in a warehouse, trying to
avoid having grown men dropped on me. and it was GREAT. I'm already
wondering how I am going to wait a whole month before the next one.
I'm really pleased with how the photos came out, and I'm excited to see
where I can take this project. While they don't exactly highlight the moves
going on...they are much more cinematic, and are more about the
environment and the event unfolding. I'm beginning to look at myself more
and more as a photojournalist, and I feel like this has helped me even more
to realize that capturing a moment really makes me happy.

Charlie and I recently had a successful art show at Bennas entitled "Forget Winter." We had lots of good friends show up for the opening, and it felt really good to see my work up on the wall. It gave me a new sense of pride and motivation to keep shooting and working. Most importantly, though, it made me feel like an artist. I'm excited to keep that feeling going.

Somewhere, in the past 5 years I've developed an unhealthy obsession with Wildwood, NJ.
I've always been a huge nerd in regards to anything concerning Worlds Fairs, amusement parks,
"adult playgrounds" of the early 1900's - like ashbury park and coney island...
There is something just so captivating about the way things used to be.
Recently I spent a whole week searching the internet for anything regarding the history of
Wildwood NJ. While I didn't find much actual text about the subject, I did learn quite a lot about
the assorted fires and scandals and changes in ownership (maybe there isn't much else historically, really...)
I also stumbled upon a few pages of photos of the boardwalk in its hayday. They were amazing. Its crazy to
think that the Wildwood I know today, is dramatically different than the Wildwood of 50 years ago. So many
things have changed...the style, the rides, the design...
While the old rides were pretty much death traps, there is something that is still so unique, beautiful,
and charming about them.

i don't really consider this photo to be artistic, but its a good example of how awesome things can come out of complete mistakes.
in this case, my flash just didn't fire...but there was enough light from all the other flashes to highlight just the right spots.

in other news, its totally spring outside. While I really wish I wasn't stuck in an office for 9 hours of my day, I am trying to take lunches in rittenhouse as frequently as possible to maintain my sanity. I'm really excited about the warmer weather and future road trips to come. I've decided that philadelphia really just doesn't inspire me artistically. south philly still has some potential...but overall, its just not enough to keep me passionate.
